Flagship of the South Carolina Maritime Museum, the four-masted schooner City of Georgetown was launched at the shipyard of William Rogers in Bath, Maine on November 1, 1902. City of Georgetown first visited Georgetown, SC in December 1902. The schooner was received with much fanfare by Georgetown-area residents. A frequent visitor to its namesake, the ship often sailed with a cargo of lumber to northern port. Early on the morning of February 3, 1913, City of Georgetown collided with the German ocean liner Prinz Oskar and sank at the entrance to Delaware Bay.
