HELP US GROW:

The Harbor Historical Association (HHA) is seeking donations to our “RAISE THE SAILS” appeal. HHA is the 501(c)(3) parent nonprofit for the South Carolina Maritime Museum and the Wooden Boat Show. In 2011, HHA purchased the first floor of 729 Front Street, Georgetown, SC to realize the dream of a permanent Maritime Museum for our region.

In the short time between 2011 and now, this dream has grown into one of the largest attractions and contributions to our community with over 20,000 visitors to the museum each year, the 2nd largest Wooden Boat Show on the east coast, and the only museum of its kind in South Carolina, to cite a few. Because of this growth and success, in 2016, HHA was able to secure a Federal Loan to purchase the entire building housing the museum, the adjacent parking lot, and four contiguous boat slips on the Harbor. Renovations of the building were completed in 2017, expanding the museum space to the second floor.

These renovations have allowed the museum to increase its exhibit area, establish classroom space for youth programs and community needs, enhance space for museum member events and community rentals, and collaborate with other local nonprofits to develop exhibits and programs for our local schools and community in general.

The “RAISE THE SAILS” campaign will allow us to go the extra miles to make these visions a reality and to be competitive with today’s technology and innovation in museum presentations. Apps for museum guides, interactive exhibits for youth and adults, equipment for improved History for Lunch Talks, storage for Opti Prams for the summer youth sailing program are just some of the vision “extras” planned to make the SC Maritime Museum a visitor destination and a jewel for the city and county of Georgetown.

HHA looks forward to having you join with us in realizing these goals and creating a space of pride in the heart of Georgetown.
